Dear Consultant,

I am an international student in Canada who finished two programs in Ontario.  I have just been granted a Post-Graduation Work Permit for three-years. I’m thinking of moving to another province like Alberta or Manitoba.  Am I allowed to do so? How will that affect my prospect of becoming a permanent resident of Canada later on?

You advice will be greatly appreciated.

PNP & CEC options for international students in Canadada

Hi Mary of Niagara,

Having been granted a three-year Post Graduation Work Permit, you can work with any employer as you wish.  For international students in Canada, there are different pathways for PR but the fastest is through the Provincial Nominee Program.  There are provinces that provide that opportunity to international students like Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, New Foundland, etc. but NOT all provinces do.  Make sure you choose a province that provides that opportunity.

Some of these provinces will only nominate international students who acquired their education and work experience there and some consider the work experience only in that particular province.  The processing time varies as well. Then, there’s the federal program, Canadian Experience Class which allows you to apply for PR after at least a year of work experience in your field of study.  You must have a work experience under NOC 0, A & B.

Email us your resume and educational credentials plus your prospective province and we’ll see if you are qualified for the PNP in that particular province.

Sincerely,

Dear Immigration consultant
My ward has applied for Canada Universities for the Course starting from September 2019.
Is it possible for applying to Permanent Residency as soon as entering Canada?
Thanks and regards

Dear Annathurai,
No, your ward cannot apply for PR upon entering Canada as a student. Your ward must complete the university program first, then apply for a Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) that will be used as a pathway for PR either through the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) or as a Provincial Nominee in some provinces as mentioned in the post.
Warm Regards
