Dear Consultant,I miss my spouse. Spousal sponsorship financial requirements.

My name is Bill of Ottawa.  I just recently married my fiancée from Malaysia.  I wanted to start my sponsorship application for her.  Unfortunately, I don’t have enough savings in the bank as I am still paying mortgage for my property.  I have a permanent full-time job though.  Do I fulfill the financial requirements to sponsor my spouse?

I heard there is minimum income requirement in order to sponsor.  In that case, I may not be able to sponsor my new bride to be with me here in Ottawa. Can you please list all the financial requirements to sponsor my spouse?

Please help us with our situation.  Thanks a lot.

Bill of Ottawa

Financial requirements to sponsor spouse

Dear Bill,

There is no minimum income requirement to sponsor a spouse/common-law partner, conjugal partner and dependent children.  Unless the dependent children have a child of their own.  You still need to show proof of income in the form of the following documents:

  • Notice of Assessment /T4

  • Employment Certificate/ pay stubs in the last twelve months preceding the date of the sponsorship application

  • Property ownership

The only conditions that will deem you ineligible to sponsor as per Section 133 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulation:

  • Must not have an undischarged bankruptcy

  • Must not have been charged or convicted of an indictable offence, a crime of sexual nature, assault that caused bodily harm to a previous relationship and/or a member of their family

  • Must not be under social assistance or welfare from the government.  People on disability benefits are exempted.

  • Must not be in default of any undertaking or court-ordered support payment obligation

  • Must not have been sponsored by a former spouse in the last 5 years.

If you want us to assist you in your application, please email us at info@accesspro-immigration.ca

Sincerely,
